    Course Description and Objectives

    CGS2100, Micro Applications for Business and Economics teaches important computer and digital technology concepts and skills necessary to succeed in business and in life. Course topics range from computer literacy basics, to today's hottest technologies, to the information systems on which today's businesses and organizations depend. This course is designed to provide relevant technology coverage for all degree programs.

    By the conclusion of this course, students who earn a passing grade will be able to:

    - Use a current operating system to run applications an efficiently manage computer files.
    - Demonstrate skills related to email use.
    - Demonstrate skills involved in web-based research.
    - Use a current word processing application to create a college-level research paper.
    - Use a current spreadsheet application to analyze complex numeric data and generate charts.
    - Demonstrate working knowledge of data base management with MS Access.
    - Prepare an oral presentation with MS PowerPoint.
    - Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic computer concepts such as computer hardware, software, architecture, and networking.
    - Demonstrate understanding of Database Systems.
    - Demonstrate understanding of Networking Technologies, Electronic Commerce, and Applications in the modern business environment.
    - Demonstrate understanding of today`s web tools and applications, including cloud computing and social networks.
    - Use and understand technical vocabulary in computer related documents written in English or Spanish.

    All the information and material for the course, including documents, links and multimedia files, will be available at the local area network and in photocopies.

    - Attendance is required for lecture and recitation classes and counts towards your grade.
    - Arrive on time, stay to the end; students must be present and engaged from the beginning to the end of class to be considered "in attendance" and deserving of any attendance points.
    - Students are responsible for any information presented in class, even when absent. It is the student's responsibility to find out what was missed if unable to attend.
    - Students who miss class must present documentation for the absence to the instructor if they wish to find out what they missed, make up quiz, extra-credit, or attendance points, or have assignment late penalties overlooked.
