  • Overview

    Description
    Composition I (SPAN 305) and Composition II (SPAN 306) are third year courses of Spanish
    designed to improve learners´ written abilities through the analysis and the production of different
    types of texts. In addition, a number of grammatical topics are reviewed in order to enhance and
    improve learners´ grammatical competence. The extensive reading of a novel will accompany
    and strengthen the formal instruction.

    Learning Outcomes
    After the successful completion of Composition I and II, the student will be able to
    -connect discourse to express different nuances such as condition, purpose and opposition in oral
    and written forms
    -provide his/her opinion regarding different controversial issues in oral and written forms
    -compose carefully edited compositions following a process approach
    -employ reading strategies to compensate for lexical gaps and interpret implied meanings in
    written texts
    -summarize the main ideas and interpret literary work.

    Assessment
    Assessment and testing procedures will be representative of the type of language instruction
    offered through classroom activities. Your grade is based on the following components:
    Midterm- 20% + Final Exam- 20%
    Compositions- 30%
    Reading- 10%
    Homework- 10%
    Class participation- 10%
