  • Overview

    Course Objective

    • The student knows the basic theory underlying elementary statistics.
    • The student is able to answer basic research questions on the basis of a
    • statistical analysis and is able to report on the analysis with text,tables and figures.

     

     

    Course Content

    This course introduces the basic concepts underlying applied statistics. Its main focus is on elementary statistical tests. The applied techniques that will be introduced are aimed at description of observed data, and estimation of and testing null-hypotheses about single population means and proportions, differences between means and proportions. Tests that will be introduced are the z-test, the t-test, and the chi-square Goodness-of-Fit test. Students will learn how to calculate test statistics and to interpret them by means of statistical tables. During the practice sessions, students will also learn how SPSS software can be used to check their statistical analyses.

     

    Additional Information Teaching Methods

    Lectures (1 x 2 hours per week, online) and practicals (1 x 2 hours per week, on campus).

    Weekly assignments (4 in total).
