Overview
COURSE OBJECTIVE
After successfully completing this course, students will:
- be familiar with a variety of literature written by authors who explore questions of the self, language, and identity in a globalized world;
- be able to analyze the representation of notions of self, language and identity in the context of globalization within these literary works;
- be able to present their argument both in class and in written assignments, supporting their points with evidence from the text;
- be able to engage with secondary literature written from the perspective of African American Studies and Cultural Studies in their interpretation of the literary text.COURSE CONTENT
Each week we shall look at a different aspect of 'identity' through the study of a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts. Specifically, this class will consider how identity shifts and changes in an increasingly globalized world.TYPE OF ASSESSMENT
Class participation (10%); written assignments (90%).
