    OBJECTIVES

    General Objective
    Acquire the basic concepts about the organization and functionality of the cell, to be applied in later courses

    Specific Objectives
    ? Get to know the ultra-structure of the eukaryote cell and interpret its topographic functions
    ? Analyze the function of the subcellular components and integrate them in the general activity of the cell

    SUBJECT AREAS:

    ? Introduction: The molecules of cells and their organization. Eukaryote and prokaryote cells
    ? Plasmatic membrane: Chemical composition, structure, and function
    ? Transport through the membrane: Diffusion, Mediated transport (active and passive)
    ? Transport of macromolecules: exocytosis, endocytosis
    ? Intercellular union
    ? Smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum: structure and function
    ? Golgi?s Apparatus: Morphology, Functions: transport and modification of proteins, recycling of membrane
    ? Lysosomes and Peroxisomes: structure and function
    ? Mitochondria: Morphology and function
    ? Cytoskeleton: Mircotubules, filaments of actinia, filaments of intermediates
    ? Nuclei: nuclear wrapping, chromatin, chromosomes, structure and function of DNA, nucleoli
    ? Cellular cycle, cellular division

    LABORATORIES

    EVALUACION

    There will be three objective quizzes that will include the material discussed in class and whose average will count 80%. The average of the lab quizzes will be worth 20%. The final presentation grade will be 70% and the test 30%.

    Students who do not take the quizzes on the assigned date will need to go before the head of their department and give a corresponding justification in a maximum of seven days. They can take the quiz at the end of the semester at an opportune time.

    ATTENDANCE
    Attendance will be considered part of the test grade. Students who have an average of a 5.0 or higher can be exempt as long as they have been in attendance 80% of the classes. Those students whose attendance does not correspond to a 90% or more, can be exempt from the exam with a 4.0 or higher, ONLY WHEN NOT HAVING ANY RED NOTES ON AN EVALUATION.

    Attendance to the labs will be 100%.
