    NAME OF COURSE: Grammar and vocabulary
    NUMBER OF HOURS: 90 class hours
    CREDITS: 06
    COURSE CODE: PIIE 163-01

    Description of the course: Theoretical and practical course designed to address the morphological and syntactic aspects of the Spanish language. In this class, at a basic level, grammar and vocabulary are envisioned as a system with three dimensions that interact among them: the form of the elements, their semantics and the pragmatic conditions governing their use.

    General Objective: To develop the linguistic competence of students so that they can deal with everyday situations in different and known contexts accurately, meaningfully and appropriately

    Specific Objectives:

    • Introduce morphological and syntactic aspects of the system of Spanish language.
    • Build up and organize vocabulary according to different and diverse authentic contexts.
    • Analyze the system of rules and grammatical aspects associated with the use and usage of the language.
    • Apply the system of rules to real communicative contexts.

    General Contents: (in Spanish)

    UNIDAD 1: Descripción (personas, lugares, objetos, rutinas)

    • Verbos ser, estar, haber, tener.
    • Presente simple para describir hábitos y rutinas.
    • Verbos reflexivos.Concordancia: sustantivo/adjetivo, sustantivo y determinante, sujeto/verbo, etc.
    • Clases de palabras: sustantivos, adjetivos, preposiciones, determinantes.
    • Vocabulario: países, nacionalidades, ocupaciones, colores, números, familia.

    UNIDAD 2: Narración

    • Pretéritos indefinido, imperfecto y perfecto.
    • Sistema pronominal del español: pronombres personales, adjetivos posesivos, pronombres de objeto directo e indirecto. 
    •  Vocabulario: expresiones de tiempo pasado.

    UNIDAD 3: Argumentación

    • Modo indicativo, subjuntivo e imperativo.
    • Vocabulario: expresiones valorativas de influencia, deseo, emoción, negación y sugerencia.

    • Clases expositivas
    • Trabajos en pares y grupos
    • Composiciones
    • Desarrollo de guías de ejercicios.

    Evaluación

    • 3 pruebas, 20% cada una (60%)
    • 3 composiciones, 10% cada una (30%)
    • Participación en clase, 10%
