Overview
This course promotes a better understanding of contemporary art in general and also specifically of it's manifestations in the Caribbean region. To do this it outlines a map of the art of the region focusing on the works of native artisits of different countries of the region including Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Colombia.
Description of the course
The student will have the opportunity to learn about the behavior of the different genres of art in the Caribbean. We have acquired the approach with an emphasis on the Colombian Caribbean not only through the plastic arts, the idiosyncrasy, and narrated and written poetry but also through the arts associated to cultural and ancient customs. Learn via media, broadcasting, and film, which came to our Caribbean shores. This is essential to our development as it gives tools to analyze, from the aesthetic reflection, the complexity of a Caribbean man's identity.Justification
The Caribbean means diversity, encounters and a mix of various cultural claims to demonstrate that it is more than a geographical territory or an administrative policy definition; the Caribbean is most importantly a cultural presence.
It is a vital entity of mixed sensibilities and thoughts, which will be conveyed by different media.
In view of the importance to our students of the knowledge of the culture of the Greater Caribbean and the incursion of Caribbean art on the big stages of the world's traditions, not as art peripheries, but as the protagonist of contemporary aesthetic approaches, its study becomes necessary from the historical references, regions, and variety of verbal expression (vocabulary) to develop the knowledge and analysis of contemporary traditions in the Greater Caribbean.Skills to develop

Knowledge (learn and be familiar with):
- Understand the fundamental concepts and cultural bases that generate the development of Caribbean Art.
- Determine the essential conditions governing symbolic production of Caribbean Art.
- Recognize the different manifestations of art by which the Caribbean has been expressing since contemporaneity.
- Familiarize oneself with some artists and their most famous works that represent our Internationally Caribbean Art.
- Recognize oneself within the phenomenon of Caribbean culture, appreciating the richness of it.
Methodological options-Learning Activities
The methodology of the course takes into account the elements of collective construction of knowledge, knowledge dialogue, reflection-action-reflection, discussion, and consensus, especially valuing the contributions and knowledge learned by students.
Each student must do activities with others, so that, between them, they can have different learning experiences that enrich the content and the development of different skills, for example, the use of technology, cooperative work through virtual spaces, discussion of ideas, synthesis and analysis, among others.
Papers and Projects
- Students will have individual projects and group projects, corresponding to each of the modules developed in the course.
- Presentation and justification of the projects
- Tests.
In these sessions, a practical exercise will be held at the end of the course related to the topics of the course. This is optional.
Going to Expositions
These sessions, students will observe works by contemporary artists for a comparative analysis with periods of the history of painting.
