Overview
1. COURSE JUSTIFICATION:
The internationalization processes of large companies face increasing competition
from younger firms, which have the ability to quickly conquer foreign markets. This
phenomenon is partly driven by technological advances and globalization as a
general context.
Considering there is a link between the entrepreneurial vision of an organization and
its performance in the long term, this course aims to give to the students the
knowledge and skills to understand the relation between international business and
entrepreneurship, defined as the discovery, creation, evaluation and exploitation of
international opportunities with the purpose of creating goods and services (Oviatt &
McDougall, 2005).
In this sense, the course familiarizes the students with the phenomenon of
international entrepreneurship, integrating the internationalization theories and the
concepts from international business. The students will analyze the key capabilities
of a global entrepreneur and study the process of internationalization from the
perspective of network theory and international innovation.
Additionally, this course aims to strengthen the imprint Eafitense on issues of
entrepreneurship in students of international business.
2. GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:
• To develop understanding of the internationalization of entrepreneurship
• To analyze the internationalization strategies for this type of organizations.
• To acquire knowledge and tools needed to design business models with
international projection.
3. ANALITICAL DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:
3.1. Introduction
Objectives
• To familiarize students with the concepts related to international
entrepreneurship and innovation.
• To understand the main organizational motivations and factors influencing
international entrepreneurship and innovation.

3.2. Theories and concepts about international entrepreneurship
Objectives
• To recognize the limitation of traditional theories to explain the phenomenon
of international entrepreneurship and innovation.
• To identify different concepts, models and theories regarding international
entrepreneurship.
Teaching and learning strategies: Lectures, readings and case analysis.
Evaluation Strategies: Case study.
3.3. Network theory and Born Global Companies
Objectives
• To review the different theories and concepts related to entrepreneurship
networks, social networks and business networks.
• To recognize the importance of different types of networks for the
internationalization of entrepreneurship.
• To identify the concept of “Born Global Enterprises” and its Impact on
International Business theories.

Evaluation Strategies: Case study.
3.4. Lean and Business model CANVAS
Objectives:
• To know the methodology for developing Lean CANVAS
• To define the 9 pillars of the Lean and Business model CANVAS and know
its fundamental concepts.
• To know the methodology for developing Business model CANVAS.
• To develop a business proposal based on Lean and Business model
CANVAS.
• To evaluate the proposal based on the fundamentals of Lean and Business
model CANVAS.

3.5. The market as a source of international entrepreneurship and innovation
Objectives:
• To ponder about the perspectives of the producer and the consumer on the
activity of the company.
• To discuss the concept of value co-creation.
• To analyze the different roles of customers in innovation.
• To create a consumer-focused innovation strategy.

3.6 The design process for International Business Models
Objectives
• To identify the concept of “Design thinking” and its role on a business model
design process.
• To explore the techniques of “Design thinking” for the development of
business models.

3.7. Innovation in multinationals
Objectives:
• To identify challenges multinationals may face regarding innovation.
• To recognize the importance of the evolution of multinationals’ business
models to ensure their existence in time.
