Overview
Summary
In this elective course we seek to question the current paradigm of business management and economics: Do companies really only exist to create value for their owners? Is the way to measure the development of a country through GDP, inflation and the exchange rate only? Is a successful company the one that is the most profitable in the market? These questions to the current model seek us to think in depth about how we can be an "agent of change" from our research, work, studies, etc. to be able to solve the great challenges that the world faces today, but especially our country, such as, for example, climate change, social inequality, corruption, poverty, the degradation of our ecosystems and resources, etc. The course seeks for the student to understand what is meant by corporate sustainability, why it is important for business students to integrate sustainability topics into their strategic thinking and finally how, from their position as a manager or entrepreneur, they can be part of solving these issues. great challenges that the world must solve today. I believe that the following quote from Prof Hart at the last Academy of Management conference (2020) exactly 2 days ago sums up these ideas “We must try to build a new social construction of what drives value – measure impact. Companies shuold be manage for purpose and financial outcomes must help reach purpose”.
