  • Overview

This is a theoretical-practical course, in which the student learns the fundamentals and principles of geographic information systems to collect, analyse, store and manage various types of geospatial data applied to different fields of physical and human geography. It covers the theory of geospatial data types and structures including the construction of georeferenced databases applied to different case studies. This course introduces the main geoprocessing tools to build different layers on complex geographic phenomena in order to make interactive queries of data, identify spatial relationships and create effective visualisations. Therefore, the students will apply modern geoprocessing tools such as machine learning algorithms including script language under e.g. the spatial analysis cloud-computing platform Google Earth Engine.
