German Language & European Studies -Freie Universität Berlin
The German Language & European Studies program at Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) offers students a great variety of courses in the German and European Studies fields. Popular subject areas include German Language, European Studies, History, Political Science, Sociology, and Art History. Of particular note is FUB?s language tandem program and its week-long excursion.
Students are not required to have a background in German language in order to participate in this program. Students will be required to complete a language placement exam prior to departure if taking a German language course and have background in German language.
Courses are taught by local and visiting faculty at FUB and ISA students take courses with other international students. Courses are taught in English and German.
Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00.
Minimum Admissions Prerequisites
Students must have completed a minimum of 2 semesters at a 4-year university at time of application. Cumulative GPA will be calculated from credit from 4-year institutions only.
All students are required to take a German Language course. German majors/minors are required to enroll in the combined 2-level Intensive German Language course.
All students who enroll in a German course are required to take a placement exam prior to departure to determine appropriate language proficiency. Exam results may determine eligibility for course enrollment.
*Students have to submit the following additional materials to complete their application: valid passport copy, photo and host university application. The host university application will be accessible through the ISA student portal upon submission of the application. If ordering or renewing your passport, ISA suggests to expedite the process to receive it by the application due date. Please contact ISA should you have any issues in receiving your passport by the deadline.

Eligibility for courses may be subject to a placement exam and/or pre-requisites.
Credits earned vary according to the policies of the students' home institutions. According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits are converted to semester credits/quarter units differently among U.S. universities. Students should confirm the conversion scale used at their home university when determining credit transfer.
Availability of courses is based on enrollment numbers. All students should seek pre-approval for alternate courses in the event of last minute class cancellations
