Study Abroad Program Description
The Medical Spanish Immersion summer program is designed for students who are interested in health care and medical terminology. During this 5 week program students will participate in a 60 hour intensive Spanish for Health Professionals course aimed to increase medical conversation vocabulary. In addition to the Spanish course, students will shadow healthcare professionals on 60 hours of clinical rotations. The opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to experiences in their medical placements will allow students to increase Spanish proficiency and cultural competence quickly. Students will be eligible for academic credit for the Spanish language course and will receive a certificate from their placement clinic for hours completed at their medical rotation.
The Spanish for Healthcare Professionals course is taught at the Universidad de Belgrano by local university professors and will include guest lectures from healthcare specialists. ISA participants will take classes alongside other international students. All students will complete a placement exam in order to determine eligibility for the program.
Students with two semesters of Spanish can enroll in Intensive Spanish Language Summer 1 program prior to this program in order meet the language eligibility requirement.
