Program Description
Open to students of all language levels, this focused, intensive program will rapidly improve your Spanish language abilities. The program consists of three, month-long Spanish language modules covering the skills of writing, reading, speaking and listening. At the end of each module, you may advance to the next level and will likely progress through three language levels (for example: low intermediate, intermediate, high intermediate) during the program. Note that level advancement is not automatic and you may not progress if you fail the course or if your professor does not think you have achieved the appropriate skills required for the next level.
All students are required to take a Spanish language placement exam upon arrival in Granada. This exam will determine your language level and course selections are not confirmed until the results are available. Classmates are international students, the majority of whom are North American. All classes are taught by Universidad de Granada faculty at the Centro de Lenguas Modernas.
A Spanish student visa is required for programs over 90 days and obtaining one may require out of state travel. Please contact your appropriate Site Specialist for more information pertaining to the process of acquiring a Spanish student visa.

Academic Information
- Enrollment in Spanish courses is determined by the results of a language placement exam administered by the CLM. Please note that your performance on the placement exam may not reflect the number of semesters of language instruction you’ve already completed at your home university. We strongly suggest that students who are trying to place into any level of language beyond true beginning prepare for the language placement exam by reviewing previous coursework.
- The transcript from the Universidad de Granada will reflect Contact Hours. Please be in touch with your home university regarding credit transfer for this program.

Funding Your ISA Program
As an ISA participant, you have the opportunity to apply for scholarships and grants that can be applied directly to assist with your study abroad programs. ISA offers over $1,000,000 in scholarships and grants each year. To see what opportunities are available, please visit the Scholarships and Grants page.

Living in ISA housing will allow you the opportunity to experience aspects of the Spanish lifestyle that are inaccessible to the average visitor. Regardless of your housing option, you will have a short commute to your university. Travel times to the various university buildings generally range between 15 and 35 minutes depending on housing and class locations. With an open and adaptable mind, the experience of living in another culture can be highly rewarding.
We strive to match your housing preferences with our available accommodations, however, housing preference requests cannot be guaranteed.

Homestay
Homestays are best if you are seeking full linguistic and cultural immersion during your time abroad. Each host family has been carefully selected by ISA's resident staff in order to best accommodate your needs and to ensure a comfortable living situation. Homestays will provide three meals a day (except on ISA excursion days when you will receive a picnic lunch for the first day) and laundry service, including a change of sheets and towel, once a week. You will typically share a room with another ISA student of the same gender. Single rooms may be available for an additional fee.

Apartment
Apartments are a great housing option if you are seeking complete independence during your time abroad. Apartments are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and availability is limited. Rent and utilities are included in the program price, and each apartment is fully furnished and centrally located. Meals and laundry service are not included.

Student Residence
Certain programs allow you to live in a residencia for an extra cost. If you choose to live in the residencia, you will be placed in a double room, and you may be placed with other international roommates that are not part of the ISA program. Breakfast is served Monday through Friday in the residencias, and you will have access to the kitchen during both the week and weekend. Unlike a typical dorm in the US, the residencia is not located on campus. Please contact ISA for more information on the residencia option and to request a residencia contract.

Independent Housing
You may opt to secure housing independently. If you select this option, you will receive a discount equal to the housing portion of the program price. By choosing to opt out of ISA housing, you are responsible for researching and reserving housing, and paying all fees, deposits, and rent directly to the housing facility that you choose.

Excursions
THERE’S MORE TO DISCOVER WITH ISA

Las Alpujarras and Almuñecar
On this two-day excursion you will explore the town of Almuñecar as well as Las Aplujarras, a culturally and geographically exceptional region of the South-facing slopes of the Sierra Nevada, in southern Spain. In Las Alpujarras, you will enjoy a beautiful hike and learn how locals make a living farming and selling souvenirs. You will also learn about the different civilizations which have inhabited this area over several thousand years. In Almuñecar you will learn even more about Andalucía’s diverse landscapes and spend a relaxing afternoon at the beach.

Córdoba
On this excursion you will tour the famous Mezquita, a 10th-century mosque that curiously houses a 16th-century cathedral. You will explore the historic Jewish quarter and visit one of three original synagogues remaining in Spain. Córdoba was once home to Romans, Muslims, Christians and Jews, each leaving imprints that you will be able to identify by the time you leave.

Madrid
Madrid, Spain’s capital, will be your first taste of Spanish culture during the Bridging Cultures Program on-site orientation. You'll visit the famous Prado museum and have a guided tour through Madrid's city center to expand your knowledge of Spanish history, culture and politics.

Morocco * Optional
This multi-day, optional excursion takes you across Morocco, one of the most colorful and diverse countries in the world. It encompasses direct cultural encounters with locals, guided tours through the medina, and opportunities to learn the ins and outs of haggling with Moroccan vendors. You will have unforgettable experiences in the Sahara desert riding camels and waking up to see the spectacular views of the sunrise.

Ronda and Málaga
On this trip you will visit one of Andalusia's most unique ancient towns and one modern coastal city. Founded by Romans, Ronda is perched atop a canyon that gives way to a gorge known as the Tajo, providing spectacular views of the Guadalevin River below. You will get to see ruins of the hammams, or ancient Arab baths, as well as Spain's second-oldest bullring. You'll also visit the city of Málaga where you'll be enchanted by cityscapes and Picasso museum.

Seville
Seville is a lively yet laid-back city known for its sunny skies, bullfighting, and as at the birthplace of flamenco. You will visit the Seville Cathedral, Giralda Bell Tower, and the magnificent Royal Alcázar, whose halls and gardens you might recognize from various Game of Thrones episodes. You will visit some of Andalusia’s oldest and most unique neighborhoods where you will see a blend of architectural styles reflective of Seville’s multicultural past and the world’s largest gothic church.

Toledo
Your visit to Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will begin with a panoramic bus tour of Toledo's unique hilltop then will continue on to the monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, Santa María la Blanca synagogue, Santo Tomé Church, and the Cathedral of Santa Maria.
