Study Abroad Program Description
The main Westminster campuses are located in the heart of London and offer a wide range of subjects, giving students the opportunity to enroll in courses that fit their individual academic needs.
All courses are taught by host university faculty at the University of Westminster, and you will take classes alongside British and other international students. With an urban campus located in central London, you can take courses in business, humanities, social sciences, tourism, and London culture as well as media, arts, and design.
Enjoy Flexibility with ISA Flex
We’ve partnered with Arizona State University (ASU) to help you overcome common study abroad challenges by adding an ASU Online course to your ISA program. With more than 2,100 courses to choose from, ISA Flex minimizes academic challenges, like major requirements and limited course options, so you can make the most of your experience abroad. Once you’ve applied, access the Flex form in your ISA Student Portal for more information on how to add this to your program and enroll in the course you need.

Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.70.
MINIMUM ADMISSIONS PREREQUISITES
There is no language prerequisite for this program.
- All applicants must have at least sophomore standing (second-year) at their home university at the time of participation.
- All applicants are required to submit a letter of intent along with the standard ISA application.
- Students applying for the Internship Program will have additional materials to submit such as an Internship letter of intent, resume, passport copy, passport sized photo and placement preference form.
- Students must also submit a portfolio of their work if they are applying for practice-based media, art or design courses.
- All students participating in an internship or academic year program will be required to obtain a British Tier 4 Visa before departure for an additional cost.

Academic Information
Course Availability & Syllabi
- The courses listed below are only a sample of what the university offers. Please see the full Westminster Module Catalog linked here for additional courses.
- Requests for sample syllabi can be made to the England Program Manager.
Course Credit
- Per the University of Westminster, 20 UK credits is equivalent to 4 U.S. semester credits/ 6 quarter units.
- Credit transfer is ultimately determined by the student's home university.
- Classes are lecture style with a seminar (smaller group) following the lecture. Focus is on individual study.
- The standard program model is 3 or 4 modules of study (60 to 80 UK credits) You may combine courses from any department from the standard portfolio offerings to make up the required classes.
- According to ISA policy and possible visa requirements, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program.
Course Level Recommendations
- ISA offers course level recommendations for the courses listed in the Westminster Module Catalog. Please note that the course level recommendations are based on the Westminster module level classifications of a 4, 5, or 6 level, which correspond with the three year bachelor's degree cycle. Courses classified as level 5 and level 6 are considered upper division and recommended for juniors and seniors with 3000- and 4000-level of experience in the subject. These Westminster and ISA recommendations are intended to facilitate the determination of course equivalencies by advisors and credential evaluators at participants' U.S. home institutions.
- If a student does not have the necessary pre-requisite experience, Westminster will not approve them for the course. Students will then provide additional module choices.
Internship
- In addition to the Study Abroad Program at the University of Westminster, you have the opportunity to apply to the Internship Program and undertake an academically assessed internship. Students participating in the Internship Program must select "Professional and Personal Skills in Development" module alongside two or three other academic modules at the university. Internship placements are limited and competitive; it is in the student's best interest to apply early.
Understanding the Course Code (EX: 4ENGL003W)
- the first number refers to the level (4= Level 4, 5= Level 5, 6= Level 6)
- the following four letters refer to the department the course is being offered through (ENGL=English)
- the last numbers/letters refer to the unique number assigned to the class

Funding

If you receive financial aid from your home university, you can likely use those funds for study abroad, as well. Speak with your home university’s financial aid office to learn about your options. Check out steps for using financial aid.

Housing
Living in university dorms will give you the opportunity to experience aspects of the British student lifestyle that are inaccessible to the average tourist. Uncovering the uniqueness of your surroundings will help you to feel right at home. You will commute to class as most locals do, via the underground (aka the Tube), the overground, public bus, or walking. With an open and adaptable mind, the experience of living in another culture can be highly rewarding.
We strive to match your housing preferences with our available accommodations, however, housing preference requests cannot be guaranteed.
Westminster & King's Dorms
You will pay a $300 refundable security deposit if living in this ISA housing option. ISA may retain some, or all, of this deposit in the event of damage to property, or if utility usage exceeds the allotted monthly amount.
Queen Mary, Roehampton & Kingston Dorms
The residence halls at Roehampton, Queen Mary and Kingston are located on campus. ISA does not have control over which dorm you are assigned to by the university. These dorms have shared kitchens on each floor, and laundry facilities are typically available for an additional cost.

Independent Housing
You may elect to secure housing independently. If you select this option, you will receive a discount equal to the housing portion of the program price.
Excursions
THERE’S MORE TO DISCOVER WITH ISA
ISA excursions allow you to explore the timeless, quaint, and historical landscape of the United Kingdom that you may not have the chance to visit on your own. While abroad, you will have the chance to go on day trips and optional trips. The locations below are a sample of included and optional excursions that have run in the past. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to take part in cultural activities offered by the ISA resident staff while in London. Please know that these are subject to change.
Brighton & Seven Sisters
Breathtaking and endless sea views await at Seven Sisters, a panoramic series of white chalk cliffs prominently positioned along the English Channel. Spend the morning walking the lush green pastures atop the cliffs or head down to the rocky beaches below to explore the coastline and cliffs at sea level. Travel West along the sea to the popular coastal town of Brighton. Brighton is known for several things, including being one the cultural and LGBT capitals of England, inspiration for famous artists and musicians, and its architecture. Some UK polls place it as the happiest and 'coolest' (not a reference to temperature!) city in England, and its name is undoubtedly among the world's most recognizable beach towns.
Stonehenge & Bath
The monument of Stonehenge is one of Britain's oldest Neolithic remnants and easily one of world's most famous sites. It is situated rather mysteriously amidst several hundred burial mounds and at great distances from any logical source for such large stones. After visiting Stonehenge, head northwest towards Bath, an ancient Roman town most famous for the baths constructed here over two millennia ago to take advantage of natural hot springs. Aside from the springs, Bath was home to many famous writers, poets, and celebrities, including the much-beloved novelist Jane Austen.
Windsor Castle
The town of Windsor is an unparished area in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire, England. It is widely known as the site of Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the British Royal Family. Windsor Castle itself is the oldest continuously used royal residence in the world. While at Windsor Castle take witness to the Changing of the Guard ceremony, visit the burial sites of Charles I and Queen Elizabeth II, relive the pomp and circumstance of the royal weddings, or simply wander the historic grounds.
Cultural Activities in England
The ISA on-site team encourages you to explore culture of England in and around your host city. The team facilitates this by offering a robust calendar of events that showcases what makes England special. These activities vary each term, and previous offerings have included visits to Camden Town, a show at The Globe Theatre, River Thames boat tour, stroll through Borough Market, and a tour of the Tower of London.
