    • The courses below reflect the most current list of courses released by the host university. Language courses can be found at the bottom of the course list. Courses and contact hours are subject to change. Requests for sample syllabi can be made to the Colombia Program Manager.
  • Course Credit
    • According to ISA policy, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by the student’s home university.
  • Transcripts
    • The transcript from the Universidad del Norte will reflect credits and contact hours for each course listed below. Please be in touch with your home university regarding credit transfer for this program.
  • Placement Exam
    • Students enrolling in language courses (e.g. Advanced Spanish, High Intermediate Spanish, Business Spanish, etc.) must take a placement exam before arrival. A language exam is not required for courses with locals in Spanish if the student has taken or tested out of at least four levels of college-level Spanish.
  • Experiential Learning Courses
    • Students interested in the Research Project course must submit a research proposal and a resume (CV). Please contact the Colombia Program Manager for more information.

English courses are limited primarily to the fields of Business and Engineering, so be prepared with viable alternates in the event of a cancellation or scheduling conflict.
  • Courses with Locals
    • Students must be at the Advanced Spanish language level or above in order to enroll in courses with locals instructed in Spanish.
    • Please see the course catalog, linked below in the Additional Courses with Locals section, for more course options.

Accessibility & Accommodations

With our wide portfolio of program types and locations, we’re confident there is a suitable, accessible program for each student.

Securing accommodations abroad can take time, so we ask that those with requests inform ISA early in the advising process. We recommend reaching out to your Program Manager or our Accessibility Team (accessibilityteam@worldstrides.com) to discuss your accessibility needs or accommodations abroad.

Destination Information

Our diversity pages for each ISA destination include information on Indigenous communities, languages, race and ethnicity, religion, LGBTQIA+, and disability access. We hope it will help when reflecting upon and contextualizing intersectionality in your host community.

Identity Blog

ISA offers students the opportunity to blog about their experiences abroad from their own diverse perspectives. These posts can be found on the ISA Student Blog, and interested students should email diversity@studiesabroad.com for more information.

Funding

All students should have the opportunity to study abroad. To help make this a reality, ISA offers a variety of scholarships to help cover your study abroad costs. To learn more about our scholarship opportunities, check out our scholarships & grants page!

If you receive financial aid from your home university, you can likely use those funds for study abroad, as well. Speak with your home university’s financial aid office to learn about your options. Check out steps for using financial aid.

Housing

ISA Housing in Barranquilla allows you to enjoy a memorable experience by living with a local Colombian family, or in an apartment/student residence with other local and international students.  With an open mind and flexibility, the experience of living in another culture will be both educational and highly rewarding. This will be a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a new place and live as a local would, so take advantage and let yourself become a Barranquillero!

We strive to match your housing preferences with our available accommodations, however, housing preference requests cannot be guaranteed.

Homestay

Host families are best if you are seeking full linguistic and cultural immersion during your time abroad. Each host family has been carefully selected by ISA's resident staff in order to best accommodate your needs and to ensure a comfortable living situation. Homestays will provide two meals per day and laundry service once a week. While students typically have their own room, you might share a home with another ISA student of the same gender.

Apartment

Apartments are a great housing option if you are seeking more independence during your time abroad. Located very close to campus, these student apartments welcome both local and international students.  In addition to furnished apartments and individual bedrooms, there are also common areas such as the gym, yoga room, pool, barbecue area and cafeteria.  Please note that some meals are included at the cafeteria and there is a laundry room available as well. Spots are limited, first come/first served, and placement is not guaranteed. Apartment types/set-up are subject to change based on availability of housing providers in Barranquilla.

Student Residence

Student residences are occupied by both Colombian and international students. At the student residence, you will have your own bedroom and bathroom.  The residence does not include meals or laundry service, but you will have access to the shared kitchen and laundry facilities. Basic cookware and cutlery and weekly cleaning of common areas is included. All student residences include WiFi and are just a 20-25 minute bus ride to the university.

Independent Housing

You may elect to secure housing independently. If you select this option, you will receive a discount equal to the housing portion of the program price.
